How to Clear the Energy in Your Home

One request that fellow healers and I receive is if we offer house cleansings or blessings. While I could create an offering to come to your home and clear the energy, teaching you how to do it is much more effective.

Consider this my version of “If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.”

A wooden tray with dried herbs and crystals.

First, let’s talk about when to clear the energy. You’re reading this, which probably means you already know you need to do it. Your intuition is commonly the first indicator that something is “off” and needs to shift.

Good times to do a clearing include:

  • Before and after hosting a party or gathering
  • After having a fight or argument
  • After any stressful interaction (including virtual interactions)
  • When you want to shift the energy
  • When you feel stuck or stagnant in your life
  • Your intuition says so

I clear the energy of my space before and after each healing session as a way to reset. Unfortunately, it wasn’t always my practice to do so, and I learned the hard way that it was necessary after breaking a crystal bowl. Allow yourself to experiment and find a routine that works for you. Below, you will find five ways to clear the energy in your home.

Declutter

This sounds overly simple, but cluttered spaces create energetic “noise” that can overwhelm you, like static. Start by physically organizing and clearing one room, area, table, or drawer. It’s incredible how much better the space feels after this one step.

Clean

As you declutter, clean that spot. So, if you’re clearing off your desk, clean it too. I use Thieves Household Cleaner. It’s non-toxic and contains essential oils that help energetically and physically. The Thieves Essential Oil Blend in the cleaner vibrates at approximately 150 MHz1, so using this product aids in raising the frequency of your home. In addition, you can use it as a deodorizer in a pinch because it smells so good!

Ritual Smoke

Creatures of Whim sells different dried herbs – sage, rosemary, palo santo, lavender, juniper, etc. Many people like white sage, but more and more practitioners are moving away from it for cultural reasons. There are plenty of other plants from which to choose! Each has a unique effect, so select your herb intentionally (and perhaps locally). Ensure you open a door or a window to let the negative energies out. If smoke isn’t your thing, try comparable sprays. A clearing spray will also work.

Sound

Sound vibrations clear the energy, too! A singing bowl, tuning fork, drum, rattle, chimes, bells, etc., will break up existing energies and raise the vibration of the space, thus clearing it. Even clapping your hands will disrupt stagnant energy, especially in the corners of a room. Visualize all the energetic cobwebs falling away and dissolving into white light.

Blessings

Once you’ve cleared the space, bless it. Thank it for keeping you safe and warm. Visualize your entire home surrounded by gold or white light and set the intention that only positive energy may enter your sacred space. Your intention is the most powerful tool in your toolbox!

There is no hard and fast rule on how often to do clearings. As I mentioned previously, trust your intuition. You may find that you want to do clearings frequently for a short time and then won’t for a while. Or you may want to do them weekly or monthly as part of a regular cleansing ritual. It’s entirely up to you.

I hope this helps!
